THUR 07 JAN, 2021-theGBJournal- Nigeria’s covid deaths now totals 1,324 after another five people were killed Wednesday by the deadly disease.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) equally confirmed another 1,664 new cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria with Lagos recording a grim one-day total of 642 infections. The Federal Capital Territory, the city with the second highest cases of infection reported another 407 infected persons.
Lagos, the FCT and Kaduna have since emerged as the new epicentres of the disease, with over 70% of all confirmed cases, according to the NCDC data.
The staggering numbers underline the seriousness of the second wave of the pandemic as health officials continue debate and bicker over vaccines procurement.
So far, 19 States have breached the 1000 total coronavirus confirmed cases in the country. Lagos is still way ahead, topping with 33, 329 cases. The FCT, Kaduna, Plateau and Oyo States has so far registered a total of 12, 835, 5,638, 5,334 and 4,100 cases respectively.
The total number of confirmed cases in the country is hastily heading towards the 100,000 mark, currently clocked at 94,369 with 77,299 cases discharged.
The NCDC said that Wednesday’s discharges include 388 community recoveries in Lagos State, 261 in Kaduna State, 87 in Plateau and 20 in Imo State managed in line with guidelines.
23 States overall reported new cases including Jigawa with 2 new cases.
