COVID-19: Nationwide coronavirus recoveries reach 3329, but 348 new cases push total to 11,166

THUR, JUN 04 2020-theG&BJournal- Nigeria reached another milestone in the nationwide coronavirus count, surpassing eleven thousand confirmed cases within a week.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported 348 new cases for Wednesday from 19 states, pushing total coronavirus confirmed cases to 11,166-another worrying number. Deaths crept up one more to a nationwide total of 315, active cases also reached 7,522 while 3,329 have recovered and 69,801 samples tested.
The 348 new cases are reported from 19 states- Lagos-163, FCT -76, Ebonyi-23, Rivers- 21, Delta-8, Nasarawa-8, Niger-8, Enugu-6, Bauchi -5, Edo-5, Ekiti-5, Ondo -5, Gombe-5, Benue-4, Ogun-2, Osun-1, Plateau-1, Kogi-1, Anambra-1.
Again, no new case was reported from Kano but the city still ranks 2nd with 970 confirmed cases, 607 cases on admission, 318 recoveries and 45 deaths-behind Lagos who numbers continues to confound.
The latest count from Lagos reads: 5,440 confirmed cases, 4,495 cases on admission, 878 recoveries and 67 deaths.
A sat June 2 2020, 812 healthcare workers have been infected in the course of the COVID-19 pandemic response, including 29 NCDC staff.
As much as 75% of COVID-19 cases in Nigeria have unknown sources, suggesting ongoing community transmission in Nigeria on a much larger scale. The NCDC announced the inclusion of an additional lab to its molecular lab network to take its total number of labs with capacity to test for COVID-19 in Nigeria to 30.
Meanwhile, 54 African countries have reported a total of 158,318 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 4,508 deaths and 67,630 recoveries.
