ASABA, FEBRUARY 3, 2017 – Delta State Consumer Rights Protection Bill, has passed second reading on the floor of the state House of Assembly as part of effort towards protecting the health of the people of the State.
The second reading of the bill sponsored by the member representing Okpe Constituency, Sheriff Oborevwori followed an extensive debate on its merits at Wednesday’s plenary of the House.
The Delta State Consumer Rights Protection Bill, according to Oborevwori, is tailored towards protecting the rights and interests of consumers in the state.
Opening debate on the merits, Oboriowori said: “The 27 section bill gives room for reconciliation and mediation between consumers and producers,” stressing that “a lot of people consume products that are hazardous to their health without knowing where and how to seek redress.”
The lawmaker noted that some producers of consumable goods still used banned substances in the production process, adding that “the proposed law will give consumers right to speak out against negative practices of producers.”
