WED, JANUARY 10 2018-theG&BJournal-We, the members of Federal Government College, Enugu (FGCE) graduating Class of 1981 received with profound shock and sadness the news of the sudden demise of our classmate, Honourable Justice Arome Benson Akogu and extend our condolences to his family at this very difficult time; praying that Almighty God will console you and give you the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

We remember Arome with a lot of fondness as a determined and principled young man that never shied away from an argument. In our junior years at FGCE when some of us were uncertain about what course of study to pursue, Arome was already settled in his ambition to study law.  He simply loved Law and every argument was an opportunity for prepping for advocacy. Though so many of us lost contact with each other over the past three decades since we left school in 1981, we followed with satisfaction, reports of his progress in his chosen career. We were therefore not surprised that he became the Director of Public Prosecution in his Kogi State from where he was called to even higher responsibility at the bench. Based on what we knew of him in those our formative years, we are confident that there would be many testimonies to his incorruptibility as a judge; a virtue that we sorely need in the contemporary Nigerian judiciary.

One of our classmates also had this to say about Arome “A true gentleman and a man of words. He was in my class – 5c. I still remember an English lesson, where in full flow; he bamboozled the teacher and the whole class when he mentioned the word ubiquity.A true gentleman and a man of words”.

While we mourn his loss, we urge you to take solace in the fact that he slept in the Lord in the Lord’s own house after a remarkable public service career. It is our prayer that Almighty God will grant his gentle soul eternal repose in His bosom. He will be sorely missed.

Rest in peace our dear classmate. Adieu. FGCE CLASS OF ‘81
