The Chief Medical Director, National Ear Care Centre, Dr Aminu Bakari, has appealed for quick resolution of issues between the Federal Government and striking Resident Doctors, in the interest of humanity.
Bakari said in an interview on Friday in Kaduna that it was important to resolve the issues so as save patients from untold hardship.
“The issues being raised by the doctors have been there for some time and I know they have been patient about it.
“The Minister of Health has addressed them and had made effort to draw President Muhammadu Buhari’s attention to their demands.
“So, I think they should exercise patience and give the government the benefit of the doubt, because I believe the issues are being addressed, he said.
The CMD said that the hospital had depoloyed consultants to handle emergency cases pending the resumption of resident doctors from the five-day warning strike.
“At the National Ear Care Centre, we have different groups of doctors apart from the resident doctors; we have the consultants and they are attending to patients.
“The pressure, though, is too much on the consultants due to the absence of resident doctors.
“The emergency unit is functional and the in-patients are still on admission because the strike is at warning stage and we expect that by Monday they should be back to work.
“Our emergency unit is taking care of emergency cases effectively and more consultants have also been engaged in order to cushion the effect of the strike.
“I am appealing to all the striking doctors and government to resolve all issues so that they resume work to save the health sector from collapse,’’ Bakari said.
