DELTA, APRIL 17, 2018 – The President of the Asaba Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ASACCIMA), MR Emmanuel Moweta has declared that economic activities are gradually picking up, but more still need to be done.

Moweta, speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Asaba, said the present effort would improve sustainable growth in the economy.

He, however, noted that the entertainment, tourism and hospitality industry had been experiencing negative growth, while the manufacturing sector was also not left out.

“Businesses have been affected both in the states and the country at large. The government should begin to look at its policies and free the economy to a large extent.

“The government should also get the economy back on its feet again and invest more in infrastructural development as this will go a long way in helping to revive the economy,” he said.

According to him, if the government embarks more on infrastructural development, there will be positive economic activities across the board and this will lead to some positive changes.

Moweta said investments in infrastructural development would boost activities in other areas of the economy and government would be indirectly putting more money in the hands of the citizens and increasing their purchasing power.

“If the textile industry is revived, millions of jobs will be created in the country, especially now that the country’s textiles are being exported to other countries.

“For a textile mill to be fully operational, the different sections of the mill must be running shift for 24 hours. With three shifts, you will be looking at not less than 10,000 and 20,000 people to being engaged in such a place.

“But from what we are seeing today, the textile mills have become moribund and there is seemingly no plan by the government to reactivate them,’’ he said.
