TUE 26 APRIL, 2022-theGBJournal Airtel Africa Plc, a leading provider of telecommunications and mobile money services, with a presence in 14 countries across Africa, today confirms that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has awarded its subsidiary, Airtel Mobile Commerce Nigeria Ltd, with a full super agent licence.
Airtel Africa, which is listed on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Limited, first announced on 15 November 2021, that it has secured an authorisation in principle from the CBN to operate with super agent licence, a license which will enable it to provide basic financial services, such as BVN Capture, account opening, funds transfer, cash withdrawals and more, to the unbanked.
The latest approval adds to approval given to the company by the CBN to operate as a Payment Service Bank (PSB) which will allow it operate almost as a bank.
‘’The licence allows us to create an agency network that can service the customers of licenced Nigerian banks,’’ the telecoms giant said in regulatory filing published on the NGX Exchange (NGX) Limited.
