FRI AUG 29 2025-theGBJournal| The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has reconstituted the National Building Code Advisory Committee (NBCAC).
Arc. Mohammed Faworaja has been named as Chairman of the Committee, which the Ministry, under the leadership of Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, describes as proof of the Renewed Hope Agenda’s seriousness to get things done right.
The new Committee is charged with reviewing the Code to reflect today’s realities, enforce compliance nationwide, and help end the menace of building collapse.
The Hon. Minister of State, Yusuf Ata who performed the inauguration on behalf of the Minister stressed: ”Business as usual is over. Nigerians deserve safe homes, strong schools, reliable hospitals, and resilient cities.
This is Renewed Hope in action — protecting lives, safeguarding investments, and restoring confidence in Nigeria’s construction industry.”
Nigerian has seen at least eight notable buildings collapse between January and August, 2025, with substantial number of casualties and injuries, mostly due lack of building code compliance and poor building material input in construction process.
The figures excludes unreported cases in rural areas which its own devastating consequences.
