FRI, JUNE 07 2019-theG&BJournal- The British Prime Minister has resigned as Tory Leader after months of chaos that blighted her leadership.
British media reports that Ms May made her official letter of resignation to the 1922 Committee which immediately announced that contest for the top job will open on Monday. According to UK’s Daily Mail, under the time table set by the 1922 Committee the new Tory leader should be appointed in the week of July 22, at which stage they will take over as Prime Minister.
The Joint acting chairs of the 1922 Committee issued a press statement today inviting nominations from those Conservative Members of British Parliament who wish to stand for election as the next party leader.
‘’Ms May will remain as Acting Leader of the Conservative and Unionist Party until her successor has been announced,’’ The Joint acting chairs said in the release.
11 candidates have so far said publicly they will contest to replace Theresa May, but each will have to secure backing from at least eight MPs to stand.
