TUE, JUNE 11 2019-theG&BJournal- Questions about who emerges the new Nigerian Senate President were answered today after weeks of high political manoeuvre as Senator-elect, Ahmad Lawan (APC-Yobe), emerged winner after the senate presidential election.
The 60 year old Ahmed Lawan who was first elected into the Senate in 2007 secured 79 votes cast to beat his closest rival Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume who scored a scanty 28 votes.
The Geography graduate from the University of Maiduguri first became a federal law maker in 1999 when he was elected into the House of Representative (Yobe).
Ahmed Lawan is said to be the preferred candidate by the presidency and that was underscored on June 6 after some senators met with President Muhammadu Buhari and a number of other interested candidates including Danjuma Goje stepped down for Ahmed Lawan.
Lawan who has since been sworn also holds a masters degree from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) and a doctorate degree from Cranfield University in the United Kingdom- both on remote sensing/GIS.
