MON, MAY 29 2023-theGBJournal |The new President of Africa’s largest democracy Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima, the Vice President, has been sworn in at the Eagles Square, Abuja today, with scores of foreign dignitaries and Heads of State present.
Tinubu becomes the 16th Head of State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the sixth since 1999 when the country’s new democratic chapter began- without military intervention.
”I do solemnly swear that I will not allow my personal personal interests to influence my official conducts or decisions…. So help me God,” Tinubu said as he took his oath of office.
The U.S President delegation lead by Honourable Marcia L. Fudge, Secretary of the United States Department of Housing and Urban development, the President of Ethiopia, Sahle-Work Zewde, President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa as well as UK Prime Minister’s Special Envoy delegation lead by Rt hon. Andrew Mitchell MP, were among the high-level dignitaries at the inauguration.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu takes over from two-time President Muhammadu Buhari who departs amid scorching security challenges, high debt profile, high inflation rate and litigations challenging the outcome of the February 25, 2023 general election that heralded the Tinubu/ Shettima administration.
