MON, AUG 17 2020-theG&BJournal– The travails of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor of Beyelsa State, Douye Diri and his presences in court rooms seem endless as he is set to go to court again to challenge his sacking by the Bayelsa State governorship election tribunal sitting in Abuja.
The judgement leading to his sack is sequel to an appeal lodged by the candidate of the Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party (ANDP) King George, who argued for the cancellation of the election because he was excluded from the November 16, 2019 governorship election in the State.
Diri was sworn in as governor of the State when he won his case in the Supreme Court against All Progressives Congress (APC) party candidate David Lyon after the court ruled that Lyon’s running mate Biobarakuma Degi Eremieoyo presented forged certificates to INEC.
Today’s judgement sacking Diri read by Yunusa Musa, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh election in the State within 90 days.
But Diri said he has instructed his lawyers to file necessary papers to challenge the judgement.
‘’We trust in the judiciary and we are appealing the judgement. With God on our side, we will get justice. We have a right to appeal even up to the Supreme Court,’’ he said.
