BAUCHI, JULY 19, 2016 – A vigilance group in Bauchi, Peace and Vanguard Committee, said it had assisted in curtailing activities of about 300 miscreant groups popularly known as ‘Sara Suka’ in the state.Alhaji Isa Madaki, the Commander of the group, disclosed this in Bauchi on Tuesday during a grassroots mobilisation and sensitisation campaign organised by the group.
Madaki said that the group, had in the past five years, tried to nip in the bud activities of these miscreants who daily terrorise innocent people in the state.
He said the vigilance group had arrested no fewer than 100 miscreant groups, especially youths who had turned to drugs addicts, hooligans and rapists.
Madaki said that most of those arrested were either handed over to the police or anti-drugs agencies for prosecution and rehabilitation.
He said that his group was formed in 2012 following the upsurge of Saka Suka who were killing innocent persons and destroying properties worth millions of naira in Bauchi.
Madaki said that the group, which had presence in all the 20 local government areas of the state, had over 4,000 members in 280 units.
He said that the group, which is non-partisan and registered with government, was assisting law enforcement agencies in arresting criminals and curbing vices.
