ABUJA, AUGUST 18, 2016 – Some bar and club managers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) said on Thursday that current economic hardship facing Nigeria has little or no effect on their business.A number of managers who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria gave different reasons why they felt their businesses were being shielded from the poor economic performance of the country.

Mr Harold Ogbonna, Manager of Kosta Lounge in the FCT, said that he believed his lounge remained unaffected because the environment helped residents relax after a long day.

“FCT residents like to relax and forget their worries despite any financial situation.

“FCT residents also seem to be night crawlers and as such the economic stress cannot prevent them from heading to such places,” he said.

Ms Amira Douglas, Manager of Dukes joint, said that her garden had always attracted people who wanted to relax and catch up with friends after work.

“I have a lovely fish and chips joint which is used by most young and old adults who want to relax and discuss on various topics.

“We have many of them who come straight from their offices to have fish and chips and a couple of beers.

“I think that even a man who is quite broke, will find the money to have a couple of drinks so that he can think about his problems with a light head,” she said

Mr Timi Peters, a bar manager in City Park, said that he knew that the economic situation would have no influence over his business because Nigerians loved to enjoy themselves.

“As a Nigerian I know that we love to enjoy ourselves and when it comes to relaxation, we always find a means to do it in the best way.

“We always go beyond measures to enjoy the moment and sometimes it is a way to show off to our friends that we are doing well even when that is a lie.

“Since bars and pubs help us to relax and relieve ourselves of stress, I don’t see Nigerians cutting down on their expenditure any time soon,’’ said Peters.
