FRI SEPT 27 2024-theGBJournal| The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo was in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) earlier today to negotiation a new Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) between both countries to guide the countries new relationship henceforth.
The meeting comes ahead of the resumption of Emirates flights to Nigeria next week Tuesday. The minister was accompanied by a technical team from the Ministry.
”Today, we firmly agreed on the reciprocal rights our local airlines will also have to begin flight operations to the UAE,” Keyamo said after a deal was struck between Nigeria and UAE.
BASA treaties covers international commercial air transport services between two countries, and promote international air link between countries.
It provides the framework under which identified airlines from two countries fly into designated orts in each other’s country, and covers issues regarding traffic right, use of intermediate routes, types of aircraft, safety standards, competition and more.
The new agreement opens fresh opportunities for Nigerian carriers, such as Air Peace, plying international routes to add the UAE to their destination list from Nigeria.
Recall that in July, the Emirate formally lifted ban on Visa application by Nigerians after both countries reached an agreement to allow Nigeria Passport holders to obtain visa to travel to the Emirate.
The announcement came more than two years after UAE suspended visa issuance to Nigerians. The agreement include update controls and conditions to facilitate obtaining a UAE visa.
