SUN, 29 MAY, 2022-theGBJournal| The former Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has secured the ticket to carry the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) hope in the 2023 Presidential Elections, after he emerged winner of the party’s primaries at the party’s Special National Convention in Abuja, Nigeria Saturday.
The outcome is as expected, hastened by the withdrawal of heavyweights such as the Governor of Sokoto State, one of the presidential aspirants, Aminu W. Tambulwal who stepped down in favour of Atiku.
Atiku later thanked Tambulwal for his ‘’spirited campaign’’, adding that he looks forward to working with him as ‘’we unite our party and our country.’’
Atiku drew a total of 371 votes ahead of Governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike’s 237 to secure the ticket.
‘’Today, the battle to rebuild and unite our great country moves forward,’’ Atiku told delegates at the convention after he was declared winner. ‘’I’m honoured to be named the PDP candidate. I look forward to speaking with Nigerians across the country, taking the message of hope and unity as we build one future for our people.’’
