FRI, 20 NOV, 2020-theGBJournal- The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) says ‘’strike continues’’ in a short twit after they met today in Abuja with the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr Chris Ngige.
ASUU wrote on their twitter handle, ‘’Meeting Ended, Federal Government agrees to pay additional N15 billion Revitalisation Fund, total now N35 bn. Strike continues.’’
The Meeting was held to find ways to resolve the 8 months old strike by ASUU who are demanding academic allowances and reenergizing of the universities infrastructure among others.
However, the Labour Minister while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the marathon meeting said, the Federal Government has proposed to offer to ASUU cumulative sum of N65 billion as part of its bid to resolve the impasse.
According to Dr Ngige, the sum of N15 billion from the amount offered would be for the revitalising of the universities, and it is in addition to the N20 billion paid earlier for the same purpose of revitalizing the universities.
He suggested the Federal Government had yielded some grounds to ASUU’s demand to help stem the lingering issues that have kept students out of the classroom for several months.
Today’s meeting in Abuja began at 11.51 am with the Labour Minister presiding. The Minister declared the Technical Session of the meeting open at 12.10 pm.
