SAT, 28 NOV, 2020-theGBJournal- The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), in the early hours of Saturday announced it is calling off its eight months strike following a deal reached with Federal Government officials after a long brutal negotiation.
The ASUU said the Federal Government offered to pay the lecturers N70 billion and agreed to settle the arrears of salaries of lecturers before December 31.
ASUU is insisting that the funding should be implemented before the strike would be suspended. It is also insisting that the payment of outstanding salaries must not be done through the contentious IPPIS platform as promised, if the strike would be suspended.
The decision followed a meeting with the Federal Government team led by Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, in Abuja, on Friday.
ASUU is now expected to report the agreement to its organs and then communicate their decision to the government after which a date for calling off of the strike would be announced.
