SUN, FEB 16 2020-theG&BJournal-Arsenal produce two magic moments to score twice within a space of three minutes and added two more late into the game to beat off the challenge of Newcastle United at the Emirates.
It was all Newcastle in the opening 15 minutes of the thrilling encounter, forcing the play and looked quicker on the ball.
Arsenal had drawn their last four games heading into this fixture and started with Eddie Nketia recalled from his loan spell.
Newcastle stayed well organised at the back when Arsenal inched up their consistency and ball possession in the second half of the first half.
The game came alive for Arsenal in the 54th minute when Nicolas Pepe supplied a brilliant ball deep into Newcastle defence. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang rose majestically to head home for the Gunners. Arsenal 1-0 Newcastle.
Arsenal was moving the ball quicker now and it paid off again three minutes later. Bukayo Saka sold a nutmeg to the highly rated Valentino Lazaro in Newcastle’s defence and squared beautifully for Pepe to coolly tuck away for Arsenal’s second goal.
Going into this game Arsenal had beaten only Manchester United and West Ham Untied.
Mesut Ozil made it three in the 89th minute, his first goal since April, in a typical Arsenal fashion, almost passing the ball into the net.
Alexandre Lacazette completed the rout in the 90 minute with a lovely pass from Pepe. Arsenal 4-0 Newcastle. The win takes Arsenal to 10th on the table behind Manchester United.
Earlier, Tottenham Hotspurs beat Aston Villa away. South Korean’s Son Heung-Min’s stoppage time goal gave Spurs the last-gasp victory. The result means Jose Mourinho’ squad leapfrogged Sheffield United to fifth in the Premier League table. Aston Villa 2-3 Spurs.
