THUR, NOV 23 2023-theGBJournal|Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule won a decisive victory at the Court of Appeal in Abuja today after the Court affirmed his election at the polls on 18 March 2023.

The Three-member Appeal Court Justices unanimously voided the October 2 verdict given by the Nasarawa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which sacked Sule of the All Progressives Congress Party (APC) and declared David Ombugadu, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner of the governorship election.

The Tribunal, led by Justice Ezekiel Ajayi, had issued a split judgment asserting that, based on evidence from various polling units, Ombugadu had the majority of valid votes.

Governor Sule appealed the decision, and urged the appellate court to overturn it. In its recent judgment, the court removed the evidence and exhibits from PW5, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 20, and 21, which the tribunal had relied on, from its records.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had also declared Sule winner of the governorship election but the PDP candidate challenged the decision and the outcome of the election.

Delivering judgement, the three-member panel held that the tribunal erred in law in concluding that Governor Sule did not win majority of the votes cast in the election.
