SAT, MAY. 06 2023-theGBJournal|World leaders, millions around the world and thousands inside the Westminster Abbey watched as England crowned a new king, King Charles 111, today.

It is the first crowing of a monarch in 70 years in United Kingdom at the abbey. The Archbishop of Canterbury placed the over one century St Edward’s Crown on the King’s head during the crowning ceremony at the Westminster.

”I came not to serve, but to serve,” the King said in first prayerv shortly before he was crowned after reaching the Abbey.

Over 2000 guests were inside the abbey for the service which saw the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby deliver the sermon. Including celebrities, US first lady Jill Biden, President Muhammadu Buhari, French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska.

Prince Harry also joined the royals for the Coronation, with his wife. He arrived in London on Friday, but he is expected to head back to the US after the ceremony today for his son’s birthday.

”We are here to crown the King, and we crown a King to serve,” Welby said to open the service that reflected in the oaths and prayers King Charles 111 made.

Meanwhile, the head of an anti-monarchy campaign group, Republic, Graham Smith and six demonstrators were arrested by police while they were unloading placards near the Coronation procession route.

Reports say the Metropolitan Police has not confirmed the exact number of people detained but most of those detained were held on suspicion of conspiracy to cause public nuisance in the area of St Martin’s Lane, by Trafalgar Square.
