MON APRIL 14 2025-theGBJournal| Amnesty International Monday, strongly condemned the killing of at least 51 people last night when gunmen invaded Zikke village of Bassa LGA, Plateau State.
The terrorists along the way, also razed villages and looted homes, destroying everything on their path.
Many of the victims of the deadly attack that could not run — including children and the elderly — were slaughtered and left in pools of blood.
The inexcusable security lapses that enabled this horrific attacks, two weeks after the killing of 52 people, must be investigated.
Meanwhile, Amnesty International welcomed the decision of the Community Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) which ruled that Kano State’s blasphemy laws violate international human rights obligations.
”Some sections of Kano’s blasphemy law are vague and overboard and fall short of the legal clarity required under human rights law. This had empowered mobs to commit violence in the name of reaction to alleged blasphemy,” Amnesty said.
Amnesty International also appealed to Abba Kabir Yusuf, Kano State Governor to urgently consider immediate implementation of the ruling of ECOWAS court to ensure compliance with Nigeria’s constitution and the country’s international human rights obligations.
