THUR JULY 24 2025-theGBJournal| The ruling All Progressives Congress Party (APC) on Thursday elected Plateau State born Professor Nentawe Yilwatda as its new national Chairman.

Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, 57, (North Central) emerged as the consensus candidate at the party’s Emergency Executive Council Meeting held at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu congratulated the new Chairman and the party leadership for the smooth election process.

Professor Yilwatda excitedly described his election as a ”big burden” but thanked the party leadership for the opportunity to lead the party into the next level.

”Thank you for picking me among millions of others in this great party. I do not take this mandate for granted. I want to accept it with gratitude and with my full heart and full mind to work together with you to build the party,” he said.

He pledged ”without hesitation” to work with everybody in the party, promising to expand the party, fix it and move it to ”our destination of choice.”

His emergence came after the Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, moved a motion for his nomination to the position, in accordance with party’s new zoning policy.

Yilwatda is currently the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development. He was sworn-in shortly after he was announced as the consensus choice.

Ahead of the NEC meeting, President Bola Tinubu met APC Governors at the State House, Abuja on Wednesday.
