FRI JUNE 06 2025-theGBJournal| Umo Eno, Akwa Ibom State Governor (Peoples Democratic Party-PDP) today announced his defection to ruling All Progressives Party (APC) citing critical admiration for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership as reason for his decision.

Governor Eno becomes the second governor within a little over a month, after Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, to jump to the APC amidst the internal wranglings tearing the PDP apart.

The Governor assured the indigenes that he would continue to work for their benefit, regardless of party affiliation and spoke to the wide consultations he held before reaching his decision.

”After due consultation with all of the critical stakeholders across the length and breath of this state in the last three months, I believe that no one has moved progressively or has ever changed party in this state that has consulted as widely as I have done,” the Governor told supporters in Uyo as he announced his decision.

”I did that because of the respect I have for all of you as stakeholders in project Akwa Ibom,” he adds.

Meanwhile, some of his appointed Commissioners are refusing to follow the Governor into APC, most of them saying they are staying back in PDP, among them is Comrade Ini Ememobong, the Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Sea Port and a member of the State Executive Council.

The Governor prior to his defection, had directed that any of the appointees who is unwilling to accompany him to switch from the PDP to APC, should resign.
