THUR SEPT 18 2025-theGBJournal| Air Peace, Nigeria’s biggest airline on Wednesday, broke ground on a massive N32 billion aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

Air Peace management hopes, that the facility will be built on a 34,000sqm land space, and seen as a boost the Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure, will help reduce Nigeria aviation sector’s reliance on costly offshore services.

Air Peace said the world-class hub will curb capital flights and position Nigeria as Africa’s leading center for aircraft maintenance.

With the strong backing of the Federal Government, Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo (SAN), and trusted financial partners, the facility is designed to accommodate a Boeing 777 and multiple aircraft simultaneously.

”Beyond servicing both Nigerian and international airlines, it will attract foreign investment and train a new generation of engineers and technicians,” Air Peace said.

The project is also backed by technical expertise from Brazilian aerospace group Embraer, and is expected to generate over 45,000 jobs once completed.

”The establishment of this facility will substantially reduce our dependance on foreign MRO centres, conserve foreign exchange, and create a magnet for international aviation industry,” says Air Peace Chairman, Allen Onyema, who revealed his company spent over N180 billion on offshore maintenance in 2024.

Minister of Aviation Keyamo described the project as a national treasure, and backed the facility to serve other airlines in the country who spends billions each on maintenance abroad.
