LAGOS, AUGUST 26, 2016 – The Agriculture and Allied Employees Union of Nigeria (AAEUN) on Friday said that it had expelled three state chairmen for alleged financial misconducts.Mr Ayodeji Oladele, the South-West Zonal Coordinator, he said in Lagos that the expelled chairmen were from Lagos and Sokoto States and the FCT.

Oladele said that the decision to expel them was reached after the meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) in Kaduna.

He said the chairmen were allegedly involved in misappropriation of the union’s funds, instituting court cases against the leadership and engaging in anti-union activities that contravened the union’s constitution.

According to him, it became pertinent to enforce regulation as a means to join hands with the Federal Government’s drive to diversify the economy with agriculture playing a major role.

“The NEC in session considered the recommendations of the central working committee on misconduct of Comrades Abubakar Malami, Sokoto State; Comrade Obafemi Oyenubi, Lagos State and Comrade Suleiman Aliyu, FCT.

“They were involved in misappropriation of union’s fund, institution of court cases against the leadership as well as engaging in anti-union activities which are all in contravention of the union’s constitution.

“Consequently, the NEC has approved the expulsion of the three chairmen and the necessary measures to recover the amount of money misappropriated are on,’’ he said.

Oladele said the national secretariat had been empowered to use the constitutional provision on any state council found wanting on the management of the union funds or failure to remit promptly.

The zonal coordinator said that the meeting clarified the state of the agricultural profession and called on stakeholders in the sector to adopt a synergy towards infusion to the profession.

“Agriculture professionals and stakeholders should adopt a synergy towards infusion of life into the noble profession to prevent it from total collapse.

“The three tiers of government should urgently inject new hands and funds to the sector for effective service delivery,’’ he said.

Oladele said the members of the executives of the association should commence negotiations with the Federal Government on the payment of Hazard Allowance to Agriculture Professionals and allied workers.
