ASABA, FEBRUARY 1, 2017 – A cross section of residents of Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, numbering over 2, 000, yesterday protested against poor power supply to the area by the management of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC.
The protesters, led by executives of Ika Landlords’ and Landladies’ Association marched through major streets of the town, disrupting socio-economic activities in the area as traders and commercial motorcyclists closed down their businesses and joined the protest in solidarity.
Storming the Ika district office of BEDC, which was heavily guarded by security agents to forestall possible breakdown of law and order, the protesters displayed placards with inscriptions such as “No light, no bill,” “Install our transformers,” among others.
Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Chairman of the association, Mr. Vincent Arimokwu, said that despite the installation of a step down transformer in the town, power supply remained epileptic.
