FRI, FEB 02 2024-theGBJournal|Nigeria, three-time winners, on Friday beat the hard-fighting Angolans to fly into the semi-finals of the TotalEnergies African Cup of Nations.
Nigeria took the lead in the 41st minute of the first half through Ademola Lookman to send the fans into frenzy. The score-line that Nigeria needed.
Lookman becomes the fourth Nigerian to score three goals in the knockout stage.
The goal was created out of Moses Simon’s well-timed run, who looked up and picked out Lookman’s late run into the box.
Both country’s started very slowly, and the game subsequently built up into an absorbing encounter.
Moses Simon, left winger Ola Aina and striker Victor Osimhen’s combination harassed consistently, trying to pick the lock of the tenacious Angolan defense.
Osimhen had a second Nigerian goal disallowed for offside. He was substituted in the closing minutes of the game as Coach Jose Peseiro made two quick changes bringing in Paul Onuachu and Kenneth Omerua.
Moses Simon was named man of the match.
The Super Eagles are now widely considered as favourites to win the AFCON title after this hard earned victory.
