Governor Jibrilla Bindow of Adamawa said his administration would partner with Camaco Construction Company, a Chinese firm in Abuja, to boost food production through agricultural mechanisation in the state.

Gov. Jibrilla Bindow of Adamawa made this known on Monday when he received a delegation from the company at Government House, Yola.

Bindow said the partnership became necessary in order to expand food production process and to improve the process from local to modernise method of farming in the state.

He said that with the partnership, the state would secure modern farm implements rather than renting them from neighbouring states.

The governor expressed regrets that the state in the past was renting tractors from other states for farmers.

According to him, this coming season will witness availability of adequate tractors.

“Our partnership with this firm became necessary to boost food production through agricultural mechanisation in the state.

“This will make our youths to get jobs and improve agricultural production which is key to our change agenda.

“In the past, our state used to hire tractors from neighbouring states like Taraba and Borno, but that is not acceptable by this administration.

“We will ensure that farmers get adequate tractors by this farming system,’’ the governor said. Earlier, Mr Young Lapyen, Representative of Camaco Company in Nigeria, said that the company in collaboration with the Chineses Development Bank would provide grants for states in the North-East. Lapyen said that Adamawa would be used as a demonstration state for other six states in the sub region.

He said that the firm would support the entire food production process beginning from cultivation to marketing. He said that the company would also provide scholarship for indigenes of the state to study in the Camaco University, the company-owned university in China.

“We will support the food production process, beginning from cultivation, to harvest, to transportation and marketing.

“We will equally provide grants and even scholarships to some of your indigenes to study in our university in China,’’ he said.
