Gov. Muhammadu Jibrilla of Adamawa has lauded the contributions by some Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) toward good governance and welfare of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.Jibrilla made the commendation when he inaugurated the Yola Advocacy Resource Centre set up on Friday in Adamawa.
The centre was set up by Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) in collaboration with the North-East Regional Initiative (NERI).
He said that CSOs had remained effective partners with government at all levels in facing current challenges, particularly the ones created by the insurgency.
Represented by the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Jibrilla said his administration was ever ready to work with the CSOs in rehabilitating the IDPs and promoting good governance.
The Chief Executive Officer of CISLAC, Malam Auwal Rafsanjani, said the centre, the second in the North-East, was opened to complement the effort of government in restoring peace and development in Adamawa.
Rafsanjani, who was represented by Mr Kolawale Banwo, said the centre would serve as a learning centre for CSOs, youths and women groups to strengthen their capacity.
He said that the centre would also empower them to change the lives of citizens at every level of their engagement in the state.
“The crux of this project is to support state and non-state actors in Adamawa State with requisite skill needed for effective engagement for good governance, rehabilitation and community cohesion.’’
In his remarks, the state Programme Manager of NERI, Malam Abubakar Mustapha, said NERI in collaboration with other organisations had executed series of projects for IDPs librated from Boko Haram.
Mustapha said some of the projects, include renovation of classrooms, Provision of school kits and skills acquisition training for IDPs and other vulnerable youths in various communities in the state.
