…Retail Supermarkets Nigeria cited the store’s financial situation and the current business climate in the country as reasons

TUE JUNE 25 2024-theGBJournal| Retail Supermarkets Nigeria Limited, owners of Shoprite and Freshmark, late Monday announced it will be closing its Wuse Store, strategically located in the Novare Wuse Central Mall, Abuja, joining the growing list of companies shutting down operation in Nigeria.

”Effective June 30, 2024, our company will no longer operate in Wuse, Abuja, and we will no longer require your services for the Novare Wuse Central Mall,” the company said in a statement signed by Dr. Folakemi Fadahunsi, INT Chief Executive Officer, on behalf of Retail Supermarkets Nigeria Limited.

Retail Supermarkets Nigeria cited the store’s financial situation and the current business climate in the country as reasons for its decision, which it said it took after ”a thorough evaluation.”

The company assured business whose services are specifically tied to the Novare Wuse Central Mall with outstanding balance of careful review of its accounting records over the next 60 days.

”We will then promptly contact you to confirm the amount owed and discuss a suitable payment schedule.”

Dr Dayo Ekong, Chairman Labour Party Lagos State described the news of the once bustling mall as ”a very sad one,” noting that this is one amongst several international companies that have closed and ended their operations in Nigeria, especially since the inception of the present government barely a year now.
