Governor Umaru Bago reaffirms support and commitment to UN development programs in Niger State

THUR NOV 28 2024-theGBJournal| Niger State Governor Farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago says he will continue to give unflinching support and collaborate with the United Nations and other International Organisations in ensuring that women in the State are empowered.

The Farmer Governor stated this when he received a delegation from the UN WOMEN team led by its representative Mrs. Beatrice Eyong including the Commissioners for Women Affairs and that of Small & Medium Enterprise and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Industry, trade and Investment.

The team was at the Government House Minna to intimate the Governor on the upcoming distribution of Business kits to 100 women beneficiaries of Shea butter value chain development, a programme under the United Nations Women programme.

Farmer Governor Umaru Bago assured the United Nations that his administration will continue to collaborate with them in various interventions aimed at empowering women as the Niger State Government is keen to women development.

He advocated robust synergy between the Ministry of Women Affairs, Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise including other relevant stakeholders so as to achieve the desired goal of empowering women to be self reliant.

Speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Niger State Ministry of Industry, trade and Investment, Hamza Sarki Bello informed the Farmer Governor that the UN WOMEN programme has been collaborating with Niger State for over four years and has intervened in the area of empowering women in entrepreneurship in shea butter value chain development.

He said, 100 of these women beneficiaries who underwent training two years back under the UN Women programme will be presented with entrepreneurship business kits to expand their businesses while also revealing that the second phase of the programme will be on bio gas where 200 women from Niger State will benefit from the distribution of bio gas stating that the Idea is to put off the use of charcoal and resort to the use of green energy for cooking.

The Ministry of Industries, trade and Investment is coordinating the UN Women intervention project in Niger State and in collaboration with the Niger State Commodity and Exchange Promotion Agency.
