TUE JUNE 042024-theGBJournal|President Bola Tinubu has said that his administration is committed to a new national minimum wage higher than the N60,000, the Organised Labour announced in the early hours of Tuesday.
The President’s commitment follows what the Labour Unions describes as an ”exhaustive deliberation and engagement” between top officials of the Federal Government and the leadership of the Labour Unions-the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
The latest meeting, held on Monday in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to negotiate the national minimum wage, comes amidst a nationwide industrial action called by the unions.
Arising from the meeting and having received the message that the President is now willing to go above the N60,000 minimum wage previously suggested by his administration, the Labour Unions agreed to convene a meeting of its organs immediately to consider the President’s commitment.
The Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage(NWM), set up by the Federal Government as its negotiating team, also agreed to meet everyday for the next one week with a view to arriving at an agreeable new National Minimum.
Meanwhile, the NLC said they are still on strike ”until we hear from our Organs at our meeting scheduled for today.
