TUE, MAR 12 2024-theGBJournal| The Senate Tuesday suspended Senator Abdul Ningi for three months after a stormy session in the red chamber.
Ningi, representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District in the Senate was suspend for alleging that the Federal Government’s 2024 budget was padded to the tune of N3.7 trillion as well as claim that the country was operating two budgets.
Jimoh Ibrahim, member of the Senate Appropriation Committee brought the motion for Ningi’s suspension, for 12 months, but some of lawmakers moved for an amendment and prayed for the suspension to be shortened to six three months.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio described Ningi’s allegation as ”grievous” during the debate but voted for three months suspension of Ningi.
Recall that in the heat of the controversy Ningi tried to deny his statement that the country was operating two budgets.
Meanwhile, the embattled Senator has resigned from his position as Chairman of Northern Senators Forum.
”This is of course necessitated by the unfolding events in the Natioanl Assembly, the North and the nation at large,” Ningi said in his resignation letter forwarded to the Secretary of the Forum dated 11th March, 2024.
