WED, FEB 21 2024-theGBJournal| The Africa Finance Corporation announced today that it is committing up to US$40 million in equity investment towards the construction of the African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE), marking a significant milestone in revolutionizing healthcare advancements in West Africa.

The project, a 500-bed medical health facility currently being developed by the Afreximbank in partnership with King’s College Hospital, is described as ”visionary.”

According to the AFC, ”it aims to turn the tide of medical tourism away from the continent by building the first in a series of world-class medical centres of excellence in Africa, this providing widespread access to critical health care in the region.”

The landmark investment agreement was inked at the inaugural AMCE African Health Forum in Abuja, and it underscores AFC’s commitment to bolstering healthcare infrastructure in Africa.

Prof. Benedict Oramah, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Afreximbank, highlighted how the collaboration exemplifies the power of cooperation among African Development Finance Institutions in driving impactful projects that benefit our communities.

Commenting on the partnership, AFC President & CEO, Samaila Zubairu, stated: “We are pleased to partner with Afreximbank and King’s College Hospital, London on this epoch-making project that will transform healthcare in Africa. By building a world-class facility, promoting skills development, and attracting healthcare practitioners, we align with AFC’s strategy to contribute to a healthier Africa.”
