FRI, JAN 19 2024-theGBJournal| The Supreme Court of Nigeria on Friday dismissed the various petitions appealing the result of the 18 March, 2023 Governorship polls which saw the election of Delta, Nasarawa, Ogun, Gombe, Kebbi.
All of the challenges were dismissed for lack of merit
By this ruling, the Court upheld their election as Governors of the various states in focus.
In Nasarawa State, the Supreme Court upheld the election of Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the State Governor amid controversy over the composition of the Panel, dismissing the appeal brought by David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Recall that Sule sack by the Election Petition Tribunal was reversed by an Appeal Court. Today’s ruling put’s a seal of approval on the Appeal Court Judgement.
Dapo Abiodun’s election as Governor of Ogun State was also validated by the Supreme Court after the apex court heard and dismissed the challenge brought by the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Adebutu Oladipupo, in a split decision.
The appeal in Delta State by Senator Omo-Agege of the APC and Ken Pela of the Labour Party (LP) against Governor Sherrif Oborevwori was thrown out by the Supreme Court for lacking merrit.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State was also declared elected by the Supreme Court just as Nasir Idris was affirmed as Kebbi State Governor.
