FRI 19 AUGUST 2016-The Delta State (Nigeria, Mid West) silver jubilee anniversary celebrations will kick-off August 24 2016. Besides the cultural parade, the grand gala and the awards night , political and business leaders will be looking for opportunities also to sign contracts during the State’s Economic and Investment Summit scheduled for Friday 26th and Saturday 27th.

The week long silver jubilee celebration is expected to draw over 2,000 participants from within and outside the State with ministers and State governors expected to attend the summit which will discuss the future of the State’s economy.

The State, which was created from the former Bendel State on August 27, 1991, is one of the richest in the country with vast reserves of natural and human resources including oil and gas, agriculture, solid minerals and fishery. It also has the highest number of tertiary institutions than any other state in the country.

A top official of the State say they hope investors coming for the event will come with their cheque books to ‘buy’ into the huge opportunity the state offers to investors. They will also be looking to showcase a planned new city around the state capital which offers huge real estate, IT infrastructure and transport investment opportunities.

The State commissioner for Information, Mr Patrick Ukah, who is the chairman of the publicity sub-committee for the ceremony said the event will begin with a children’s party to be hosted by the wife of the State governor and founder, 05 Initiative, Mrs Edith Okowa at the event centre in the state capital, Asaba. This will be followed by a cultural parade at the cenotaph in Asaba on the 25th and culminate with an interdenominational service on Sunday the 28th of August.
