The Commission traditionally holds such meetings before an election as readiness assessment event, to holistically look at the challenges faced during planning and identify critical areas for urgent interventions.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, in his address, said the success of any election primarily depends on the ability to deploy personnel and materials to various polling unit early.

The Chairman, National Commissioners and Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC) also, Recruitment, Refresher Training, Payment, Deployment of ad-hoc staff and Deployment of Election Materials to the RAC Centres and Polling Units across the state.

The INEC Chair had earlier met with members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC)outside the venue of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security meeting, located in the INEC Imo State Office premises.

He described Youth Corps members as the most educated, hardworking, consistent and patriotic election duty staff that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) can ever have and pray for. He had also variously declared that the Commission cannot conduct elections in Nigeria without them.

At the Election Security meeting, the Chairman spoke extensively about security during the election, smooth logistics for personnel and materials, and ensuring a transparent and credible election. The security meeting was held as part of final preparations for the election.

Prof. Mahmood Yakubu also reminded the stakeholders that INEC is not a Political Party. We do not have a candidate in the November 11 election.

”The responsibility of who becomes the next Governor of Imo State is entirely in the hands of the Voters in Imo State. Our commitment is to protect the integrity of the process so that who ever the people of Imo State vote for becomes their Governor,” Prof. Yakubu noted.
