PDP mourns one of its ”leading lights”, Chief Raymond Dokpesi who died, aged 71

MON, MAY 29 2023-theGBJournal |The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) laments that Nigeria has lost a patriot, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, one of its leading lights, member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Executive Committee member of the party, who died today, aged 71.

Dokpesi, Chairman, DAAR Communication, owner of Ray Power FM and AIT television has been a staunch member of the party since inception and regarded as one who changed the face of Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

Former President of Nigeria Goodluck E. Jonathan, paid tribute while visiting the family of the late media mogul

The Party’s Presidential flag bearer in the February 25, 2023 general elections said in a tweet, ”I am in a state of shock,” adding I am in prayers and will continue in prayers! My everlasting and deepest condolences to Raymond Dokpesi family. May God forgive his sins and grant him eternal rest.

The former President of Nigeria and a leading PDP stalwart Goodluck E. Jonathan, paid tribute also while visiting the family of the late media mogul to convey his condolences on ”the shocking passing of the accomplished entrepreneur, media mogul and renowned humanitarian who died on Monday in Abuja.”

Earlier, AIT announced his passing in a statement.

”The sad incident occurred on Monday May 29, at about 2.30pm, at the an Abuja hospital where he was admitted after taking ill.”

As a family, it is a loss that is almost impossible to come to terms with, and it is a grief collectively shared by the Board and staff of DAAR Communications Plc, which he founded over two decades ago.”

Notable Nigerians, including Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, the 13th President of the Nigerian Senate and chair of the 8th Nigerian National Assembly (2015-2019), Prof. Pat Utomi, Senator Shehu Sani and Ben Murray-Bruce have all sent their condolences, expressing their shock as well.
