THUR, APRIL. 13 2023-theGBJournal |Ibom Air, a wholly owned Akwa Ibom State Government airline, has been formally presented with its Operational Safety Certification (IOSA) by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the trade association of world’s airlines.

Anieken Essienetta, Group Manager and Marketing and Communication said in a statement that IATA representatives Dr, Samson Fatokun, Area Manager, West and Central Africa, and Jennifer Aisha Yeates, Assistant Director Operations, Safety and Security, West and Central Africa Wednesday made the presentation to the Ibom Air’s management team led by the CEO, Mfon Udom, at the company’s headquarters in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State capital.

Established by IATA IN 2003, IOSA uses internationally recognized quality auditing principles to assess the operational management and safety controls of airlines to certify them consistently.

Ibom Air said the IOSA audit of its airline was conducted in the second half of 2022, just over three years after the company commenced commercial operations.

Ibom Air’s effort was championed by the airline’s Quality and Safety Team, led by Engineer Edem Essien, Group Manager, Quality and Safety.

The Chief Operating Officer of the airline, George Uriesi commended the team’s effort for the landmark achievement while responding to the presentation.

”Ibom Air’s achievement of the IOSA Certification at this time is very much in line with our continental aspirations, as we move to position our airline strongly on the African continent,” Uriesi said.

He said the company’s strategy to spread its wings across Africa includes establishing multiple interlines.

”Being IOSA certified is a prerequisite for this.”

The company said the certification validates the airline’s high operational and safety standards and is an essential milestone as the airline positions for regional operations and collaboration.

”It stands to move the airline further on course to deliver on its Mission, to build a safe, service-focused, and profitable airline,” management said.

The airline currently has a fleet of seven aircraft-five Bombardier CRJ 900 and two Airbus A320-300s, covering seven destintions and nine routes.
