MON. 27 FEB, 2023-theGBJournal| The Labour Party Nigeria took a commanding lead in the presidential and national assembly elections in Lagos State after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials announced results from three Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the State today.

So far, results from 20 LGAs have been released following elections which took place on Saturday.

The State’s INEC collation official reported the results, following collation reports by ground staff of the Commission, at the Media Centre, Yaba Lagos.

The results from three LGAs, Alimosho, considered the largest LGA in the State, Ojo and Mushin LGAs were announced this morning. The Labour won in two of the three LGAs.

In Alimosho LGA, Labour Party(LP)  defeated the All Progressives Congress Party (APC) by 8, 418 votes haven scored a total of 71,327 as against APC’s 62,909. In Ojo the Labour Party (LP) also beat the APC, scoring 38,859 vs 20,603 tally of the APC while in Mushin APC defeated Labour, polling 41,907 vs 23,390 earned by the Labour Party.

Total tally of the result from the 20 LGAs announced shows Labour Party with a total of 582, 454 votes to lead the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which came in a distant third.

The APC polled a total of 571, 575 while the PDP polled 75, 675 votes.

Some Lagos residents were seen by the G&BJournal reporters already applauding the result, with many gathered in groups while analysing the outcome.

‘’Well what INEC has done today reflects the wish of the people, but they could have done better,’’ says Abeke Idowu, resident in the Alimosho LGA.

She said she feared her vote won’t count but the result today restores some form of credibility to the process and INEC, following the bashings they have so far received from the public over the failure of the BVAS and election viewing portal.

The problems of thuggery encountered during the process was also relieved by residents who were seen mocking some well known names, considered the main thugs used to harass voters in the state during the election.
