COVID-19 confirmed cases soar above 100k in Nigeria for the first

MON 11 JAN, 2021-theGBJournal- A further 1024 people in Nigeria were confirmed positive with the deadly coronvirus Sunday to take the total tally to 100,087- with as many as 1358 in total confirmed dead.

Lagos State, the FCT and more than half of the 36 States of the federation are now in the grips of surging pandemic, a the Nigerian Centre of Disease Control (NCDC) figures reveal.

The Lagos remains the worst hit with counted confirmed new cases at 653 and a total of 30, 188 and 247 deaths. The FCT is the next worst hit area for infection, with 11, 705 cases and 102 deaths.

The 1024 new infections were reported from 17 States with Plateau State recording the second highest haul of 63 after Lagos (653). Benue and Zamfara reported 48 and 45 new cases respectively as the NCDC ramps up its warning that the pandemic is not over.

Meanwhile, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), the approved agency charged with the responsibility for all vaccine matters, is providing leadership to ensure access and distribution of the COVID-19 vaccines in the country since the Federal Government announced it was procuring WHO approved vaccines to be administered on Nigerians, free of charge.
