SAT, 12 DEC, 2020-theGBJournal- President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of an interim administrator to oversee the affairs of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), effectively firing Daniel Pondei, acting managing director who has been facing a litany of litigations and accusations bordering on fraud.
The announcement late Saturday night comes as no surprise to many analysts theGBJournal reached on the development.
‘’He should have been booted long before now,’’ said one analysts familiar with the NDDC. “The President’s action tonight gives credence to his intolerance for corruption,’’ he said, while citing also the actions taken against former EFCC chair and the ex-Pension czar, A Maina, both accused of alleged graft to buttress his point.
A statement from the Presidency said, Mr Effiong Okon Akwa, the acting Executive Director, Finance and Administration of the Commission is to assume headship till completion of the on-going forensic audit of the Commission.
According to the Presidency, ‘’the development became necessary as a result of plethora of litigation and a restraining order issued recently against the Interim Management Committee of the NDDC by a Federal High Court in Abuja.’’
Mr Akwa is a fellow of the institute of Chartered Accountants and a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
