SAT, 07 NOV, 2020-theGBJournal- ‘’I am honoured and humbled by the trust the American people have placed in me and in Vice-President elect (Kamara) Harris, who now breaks vice presidential glass ceiling.’’
The warm, embracing and healing message of Joe Biden, the 46th President-elect of the United State of America on Saturday after he swept the 20 ballots on offer in Pennsylvania his native State.
‘’In the face of unprecedented obstacles, a record number of Americans voted. Proving once again, that democracy beats deep in the heat of America,’’ Biden said.
‘’With the campaign over, it’s time to put the anger and the harsh rhetoric behind us and come together as a nation. It’s time for America to unite. And to heal. We are the United States of America. And there’s nothing we can’t do, if we do it together.’’
His defeat of the incumbent President Donald Trump effectively ends the contentious campaign even as all eyes continue to be on battleground states that will ultimately reveal their final ballot counts in the coming days.
It is also a history making win as the Vice-President-elect Mrs Harris, will become the first woman, African-American and South Asian American to hold the vice presidency.
Again, Trump’s defeat will make him the second one-term president since Republican President George H.W Bush in 1992.
Biden’s victory follows call by US TV networks as votes in Pennsylvania put him way ahead, while President Trump played gulf. Trump earlier had announced he was going to address a press conference later today.
Biden took an insurmountable 30, 908 lead in Pennsylvania. He holds a 4, 263 lead in Georgia, and in Nevada he leads by 22, 657 votes while in Arizona he leads by 20, 573. He also leads in popular votes by over 75 million.
Biden’s win in Pennsylvania took him to 273 Electoral College votes which he requires to secure the Presidency.
He becomes the oldest president, the second Catholic and the second candidate to knock off an incumbent in 100 years when he is sworn in 2021.
