MON, AUG 17 2020-theG&BJournal– The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 (PTF) has announced that International flights from and into Nigeria will resume on the 29th of August 2020. Flight resumption will begin at the Murtala International Airport and the Abuja Airport.
The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika who made the announcement today during the PTF briefing on COVID-19 said that the health protocols will be announced in due course, however, ‘’what we have become used to-physical distancing, wearing of masks, washing of hands, temperature taking will continue.’’
He said all of these existing protocols will continue alongside the opening of these airports.
According to Sirika, at the beginning, there will be four flights into Abuja and Lagos respectively daily. He noted that the decision is the decision taken by the task force and not that of the aviation.
‘’So what would happen is that very close to your departure date, you will take a COVID-19 test and you fill in the health questioner online- so that you don’t bother yourself filling long forms when you arrive or when you are in the aircraft- which you deliver at point of entry to us.’’
He said there will also be a portal that will be opened and prior to your departure you will pay through that platform for a test to be done here in Nigeria.
‘’Meaning just before you depart, you take a test, hopefully you test negative and if you are not showing any signs of COVID-19, then we board you on the flight.’’
He said there may not be a need to take your passport at the airport after these processes are undergone.
