The Nigeria Union in South Africa on Tuesday urged the Federal Government to sustain the war against corruption in order to restore sanity in the country.

Mr Ikechukwu Anyene, the President of the Union, made the call in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) from Pretoria, South Africa.

He said Nigerians in that country were happy with the fight against corruption by the Federal Government in the bid to restore the dignity of the nation.

“Fighting corruption in Nigeria will not be an easy fight. We hope that the government will not relax until sanity is returned to our country.

“We pray that the fight against corruption should be all encompassing; there should be no sacred cows so that Nigerians will have confidence in the war against corruption.

“For now, we are happy, government is doing well in that direction,” he said.

Anyene also said the Muhammadu Buhari administration had done well in the fight against terrorism.

He said the Federal Government had succeeded in reclaiming territories held by Boko Haram in one year.

“We can see that there is improvement in suppression of the Boko Haram group. We note that they have lost a lot of capacity and territories held before now.

“We encourage government to continue in the fight against terrorism in the country,” he said.

He, however, called on government to check other security challenges in other parts of the country in order to protect lives and property.

Anyene also said Nigerians in South Africa were happy with the 17 years of uninterrupted democracy in the country, expressing the hope that this would be deepened.

On the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission, Anyene called for the resuscitation of the meeting to improve relations between the two countries.

He said that there were so many issues of mutual interest between the two countries that needed to be discussed at the meeting.

Anyene also urged government to put in place measures to ameliorate the hardship being faced by Nigerians.
