Kerosene Price, Petrol Price skid down, diesel price jumps and cooking gas price fluctuates

THUR, MARCH 14 2019-theG&BJournal-The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has published data on some of the most important consumer items in country. The data published today and just before the February 2019 CPI/inflation report due tomorrow, reflect swings and stability in the items for the month of February 2019.

The February data shows that the average price for the refilling of a 5kg cylinder for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) increased by 1.37% month-on-month and decreased by -4.09% year-on-year to N2, 067.68 in February 2019 from N2,039.82 in January 2019. Similarly, average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) decreased by -0.77% month-on-month and -2.04% year-on-year to N4,244.91 in February 2019 from N4,277.86 in January 2019.

The average price paid by consumers for premium motor spirit (petrol) decreased by -15.8% year-on-year and -0.3% month-on-month to N145.30 in February 2019 from N145.70 in January 2019. The average price paid by consumers for automotive gas oil (diesel) increased by 0.23% month-on-month and 7.49% year-on-year to N225.61 in February 2019 from to N225.09 in January 2019, while the average price per litre paid by consumers for National Household Kerosene decreased by -0.27% month-on-month and 5.85% year-on-year to N305.55 in February 2019 from N306.28 in January 2019.

The data also shows the varying prices consumers have to pay for these items in various states of the federation. It showed that Bauchi (N2,500.00), Cross River (N2,450.00) and Adamawa/Borno (N2,400.00) states paid the highest average price for the refilling of a 5kg cylinder for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas).

States with the lowest average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) were Oyo (N3,805.88), Ogun (N3,835.71) and Kano (N3,775.00) and states with the highest average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) were Akwa Ibom (N4,700.00), Abia (N4,688.89) and Cross River (N4,759.09).

Oyo (N146.50), Plateau (N146.55) & Taraba (N150.55) states paid the highest average price of premium motor spirit (petrol) while Borno (N243.67), Kaduna (N239.55) and Osun (N237.14) states paid the highest average price for diesel. States with the highest average price per litre of kerosene were Plateau (N335.55), Anambra (N332.22), and Enugu (N329.17).

States with the lowest average price of premium motor spirit (petrol) were Ogun (N143.06), Imo (N143.18) & Ekiti (N143.47)

States with the lowest average price of diesel were Adamawa (N204.38), Ekiti (N205.72) and Plateau (N207.50).

States with the lowest average price per litre of kerosene were Gombe (N265.74), Niger (N268.42) and Lagos (N274.35)

States with the highest average price per gallon of kerosene were Jigawa (N1331.25), Borno (N1325.00) & Katsina (N1305.00).

States with the lowest average price per gallon of kerosene were Niger (N1,110.00), Kogi (N1,051.43) and Bayelsa (N1,105.00).
