Motorists commend FG as queues disappear from filing stations

Some Motorists on Tuesday praised the Federal Government over the deregulation of petroleum downstream petroleum secretor, describing it as a wise decision.The Federal Government, through the Minister of State for Petroleum, Mr Ibe Kachikwu, had on May 11, announced the deregulation.

The decision had led to availability of the product in most stations across the country and subsequent disappearance of queues at filing stations.

Lauding the decision on Monday, some motorists who spoke in separate interviews, said there was wisdom government’s decision on the issue.

A motorist, Emeka Chizoba, said the decision of government to allow any interested importer to bring petrol, would reduce monopoly in the industry.

“Anybody can now import fuel without belonging to any cabal or group whatsoever, which for me, is the best decision taken so far by this administration since its inauguration, “he said.

A car owner, Isalu Iyabode, who also hailed the action of government, emphasized the need to ensure that adulterated products were not brought into the country.

“With all my body and soul, I support the government on this; we are already seeing the gains.

“Queues have disappeared from our filing stations; all of them are now selling at uniform price; I just want to appeal that the relevant authority monitors what marketers import.

“It is very important to monitor closely, activities of importers so as not to have another experience similar to what we had during the days of kerosene explosions in some parts of the country,” she said.

Another road user who pleaded for anonymity, also commended the Federal Government, describing its decision on the matter as “bold steps taken in the right direction”.

“It is a very difficult decision; only bold and courageous leaders can try it in a type of complex society like ours.

“I just want to appeal that all the palliatives in the budget that will cushion the effect, are well implemented, “he said.
