FRI, DECEMBER 07 2018-theG&BJournal–  Global engineering and Infrastructure advisory company Aurecon has appointed Kompi Nthejane as the new Office Manager for the company’s Lesotho office. Nthejane has been a Professional Quantity Surveyor in Aurecon’s Bloemfontein Office and has 10 years of extensive experience in areas such as planning and programming of contract works, resource determination, litigation and arbitration, planned preventative maintenance, and the maintenance of buildings.

“Lesotho is a priority growth market for Aurecon and our involvement in the country dates back to the 1950s when the first studies for what would become the Lesotho Highlands Water Project were initiated,” says José Miranda, Aurecon Regional Director, Greater Afrika.

“Lesotho is known for its great men and one of the greats that the country produced is Kompi. As Aurecon, we are grateful that you’ve raised him, educated and nurtured him and now we send him back to you as Head of the Aurecon office in Lesotho,” adds Miranda.

Aurecon’s first Lesotho Office was opened in Maseru in 1967 and the company has continued to have a presence in the country ever since, with extensive involvement in Phase 1 of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project, which was named Most Outstanding Engineering Achievement of the Century by the South African Institution of Civil Engineering.

“Our ongoing involvement in this project is a key focus area but, at the same time, we continue to be committed to bringing new skills to help tackle the developmental challenges that Lesotho faces, many of which are the same as those facing South Africa. It is for this reason that we are proud to have appointed Kompi to spearhead the infrastructure development projects that Aurecon will drive in the region,” says Miranda.

Nthejane obtained a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Quantity Surveying in 2008 and a Bachelor of Science in Construction Studies in 2005, both from the University of Cape Town (UCT), South Africa. He also completed a Diploma in Construction Studies at the Lerotholi Polytechnic, Lesotho, in 2000, and is a professional member of both the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP) and Association of South African Quantity Surveyors (ASAQS). Before joining Aurecon in 2016, he worked at the Lesotho Ministry of Public Works, Lethola Cost Associates and Chris Lebona Architects.

Recent and current Aurecon projects in Lesotho

Aurecon was appointed as the Programme Managers for the construction of 153 clinics throughout Lesotho. The project, which won Best Aurecon Project in 2015, was financed by the Millennium Challenge Corporation. Aurecon is also currently involved in the Polihali Transfer Tunnel and Polihali Major Bridges projects, which are key elements of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project Phase II. Construction will start in 2020 and all main infrastructural aspects of this Phase II project are expected to be completed by 2025

“Aurecon’s experience in the delivery of major infrastructure projects, particularly in the water sector, as well as our in-depth knowledge of Lesotho’s water resources, places us in an ideal position to service the Lesotho Highlands Water Project,” says Nthejane.

His new role aligns with the transportation, water, infrastructure engineering design and advisory services that Aurecon has applied on several projects in Lesotho.

“I have gained an extensive knowledge of conditions and materials in Lesotho and, together with our experienced team, have developed strong relationships with both clients and other built environment professionals. I will continue to harness Aurecon’s global expertise and local knowledge to help deliver world-class solutions for Lesotho,” comments Nthejane.
