The Nigerian Army has confirmed the rescue of another Chibok school girl by troops of Army detachment and special forces supported by members of Civilian Joint Task Force in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno.
This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday by the Army Spokesman, Col. Sani Usman.
He said the girl, Serah Luka and 96 other hostages including women and children were rescued when troops invaded a Boko Haram camp in Shettima Aboh in Damboa Area.
Usman said the girl had been taken to a medical facility at the Abogo Largema Cantonment, Biu, Borno state.
“We are glad to state that among those rescued is a girl believed to be one of the Chibok Government Secondary School girls abducted on April 14, 2014.
“During debriefing the girl revealed that she was a JSS1 student of the school at the time they were abducted.
“She added that she hails from Madagali, Adamawa State and that there were three other girls who fled the camp when the troops invaded the area on Thursday,’’ Usman said in the statement.
Usman said during the operation that resulted in the rescue of the girl, 35 Boko Haram fighters were killed while several arms, ammunition and other items were recovered from the insurgents.
He said the troops comprising 231 Battalion, 331 Artillery Regiment, detachment of the Armed Forces Special Forces Battalion and the Explosive Ordinance Team, also cleared terrorists in the adjourning communities.
The Army has recently rescued scores of hostages including one of the abducted Chibok school girls, Amina Ali, held in a camp operated by the insurgents.
